What animals can you see and experience at Animal Kingdom?
Leave it to Disney World to build a zoo-like section of their theme park that puts so many other zoos to shame. Not only is Disney World Animal Kingdom full of a large variety of creatures, but it also includes attractions unlike any you’ll find in any other zoo or theme park.
The animals at Animal Kingdom will delight adults and children of all ages. What animals can you expect to see while you’re there? It would be impossible to list them all, but let’s take a look at the ones you can expect to see at specific locations and in certain attractions.
Kilimanjaro Safaris
Without a doubt, the Kilimanjaro Safaris are the primary attraction in the Animal Kingdom area of Disney World. Covering 100 acres, you’ll be able to see multiple animals roaming freely across this gorgeous savanna, including lions, giraffes, elephants, rhinos, hippos, gorillas, zebras, flamingos, meerkats, and even tarantulas. You definitely want to bring your camera along because you’re often able to get up close and personal with many of these incredible creatures. While these wild animals are roaming freely, there’s a barrier to keep you safe.
Maharajah Jungle Trek
This self-guided Animal Kingdom tour allows you to explore a magnificent and exotic locale filled with incredible architecture and ancient ruins. The animals, of course, are the true stars of the area, including tigers, antelopes, flying foxes, fruit bats, gibbons, and several others. Keep in mind that the tigers are somewhat elusive and the best times to see them are typically early in the morning or later in the afternoon. That’s when they’ll likely be basking in the sun or playing in the pond. And don’t forget to look up at the end of the journey or you might miss the more than 50 species of birds flying above you in the aviary.
Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail
Despite the name, gorillas definitely aren’t the only animals at Animal Kingdom you’ll discover on this trail. As you walk along, you’re very likely to see a mix of hippos, zebras, meerkats, exotic birds, and more. Just stay as quiet as possible because the gorillas will often get spooked by loud noises and go into hiding. You’ll also come into contact with the mysterious creatures known as Disney Cast Members. Okay, so they’re not so mysterious. These particular Cast Members are research students who can answer any questions you have about the animals.
Flights of Wonder
If you’re a fan of birds, you definitely don’t want to miss the Flights of Wonder. This incredible show highlights more than 15 different types of birds including an American bald eagle, gray-crowned crane, toucan, macaw, and others. These avarian favorites are joined by a bird handler and a few small creatures as they basically put on a skit for the audience. This hilarious and enduring show will definitely keep you entertained.
Sense of Africa
This incredible Disney World Animal Kingdom tour lasts for 3.5 hours and provides a behind-the-scenes look that is unlike anything else at the park. Your adventure will begin by learning how the art and architecture found at the Animal Kingdom Lodge have been brought to life by Disney Cast Members. Then, you’ll enjoy a hearty breakfast at Boma – Flavors of Africa where you can dine on exclusive dishes inspired by this gorgeous continent. After filling up, you’ll hop on a private safari vehicle and be led through an amazing up close and personal journey with many of Africa’s most exotic animals.
