New Disney World Attractions for 2022!

Disney World had to close down temporarily in early 2020 due to restrictions and safety risks caused by the pandemic. The iconic park reopened in July 2020 but made adjustments in compliance with safety measures required by health organizations. Up until today, thDisney parks only operate at 35% of their capacity to enforce social distancing, and operating hours have been adjusted. Likewise, Disney requires all guests to wear masks at all times except when eating or swimming.

If you have not been to Disney World since before the pandemic, you are likely wondering about all the new Disney World attractions and the overall changes that have taken place. 2020 was originally supposed to be a major construction year for Disney, but due to the unexpected closure and the changes in operations, many projects were delayed while others were canceled. Fortunately, Disney has now resumed construction, so you can expect the attractions scheduled for 2021 to come in 2022.

If you are curious about what Disney world has in store for its guests next year, continue reading to get a glimpse of some of the new Disney World attractions to come. Who knows? Reading about all the upcoming rides and attractions may convince you to make Disney hotel reservations and grab tickets for a vacation in 2022.

New Disney World Attractions to Anticipate in 2022

Disney’s 50th-anniversary celebration will be the most anticipated event of 2021 as the festivities begin on October 1 and continue running for 18 months. Most of the ongoing refurbishments and construction projects are dedicated to the milestone event, so you can expect them to be completed any time during the celebration. That said, here are some of the new Disney World attractions to look forward to in 2022:

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind

The Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind ride is the most awaited attraction in EPCOT as it is envisioned to be one of the world’s longest indoor roller coasters. It was originally supposed to be ready by mid-2021 but has been delayed due to the park’s closure. The actual release date has yet to be announced, but many are speculating that the ride will be ready by late 2022.

TRON Lightcycle Power Run

Much like the Cosmic Rewind attraction, the TRON Lightcycle Power Run is a highly-anticipated ride that will be found in Magic Kingdom. The attraction will be a replica of the Shanghai Disneyland ride featuring a motorbike-styled roller coaster. While TRON was initially in the works to be completed in time for Disney’s 50th-anniversary celebration, the opening date was pushed back. Whether it opens in 2022 is still uncertain, but many are hopeful that the ride will materialize by then.

Space 220

Space 220 is a galaxy-themed restaurant to be built beside the Mission SPACE attraction. Guests will be able to ride an elevator that makes it seem like you are traveling in space, and while dining, you will be surrounded by panoramic views from 220 miles above Earth. The restaurant was scheduled to open in 2020, but again, due to postponements caused by COVID-19, the new opening date is still uncertain.

Roundup Rodeo BBQ

About two years ago, Disney’s Hollywood Studios was a massive construction site for ongoing projects. However, since then, the park has grown in popularity among guests, especially with the construction of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Toy Story Land.

Similar to Space 220, Roundup Rodeo BBQ is an upcoming restaurant that was supposed to open in 2020in Toy Story Land. It will be built near the giant Woody structure in the main entrance, so families can sit down and enjoy their meal while surrounded by Woody’s Roundup pals. Disney has not announced a confirmed opening date, but there is a chance that the restaurant will start welcoming guests in 2021.

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser

If you have ever stayed in a Disney resort hotel, then you would know that Disney is all about the experience and ambiance. Thus, the upcoming Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser resort has everyone excited and hyped about what the hotel will have to offer. While it is labeled as a hotel, it would be an understatement to use the term to describe the two-night experience aboard the Halcyon Ship.

Indeed, the plans for this hotel are nothing like any of the Disney resorts that you are used to staying in. The experience will be highly immersive, making you feel like you were actually traveling to Galaxy’s Edge in space. Aside from lodging, food and other fun experiences will also be included in your two-night stay.

The hotel was supposed to open in early 2021, but based on its current progress; the completion date will likely be pushed back to 2022. Even so, the date is not set in stone since the social distancing requirements may lead to the postponement of the hotel’s first launch.

While most of the new Disney World attractions do not have finalized opening dates, you can still be assured that Disney will have something new by the time you visit in 2022. After all, its 50th-anniversary celebration will be underway by then, so you can expect the fun to continue from day to night!
