Here’s what you should wear to Universal Studios.

Even if you’ve been to Universal Studios in Orlando a dozen times, it never gets old. It’s one of the most incredible theme parks in the entire world, and it keeps getting better every single year.

Getting through the park is typically an all-day adventure, so it’s important that you know what to wear to Universal Studios so that you can stay comfortable. Today, we’re going to go over some important clothing tips that will make your time at this amazing park even better.

What You Should Wear at Universal Studios

The good news is that what to wear at Universal Studios isn’t really a huge mystery. Here are some simple rules to follow:

  • Clothes in General — You obviously need to be fully clothed when you visit Universal Studios. This generally means that you need to wear shoes, socks, pants, a shirt, or some variation thereof.
  • Comfortable Clothes — You’re going to be at the park for several hours, so you definitely want to wear comfortable clothing. We’d suggest that you wear loose-fitting clothing and comfortable shoes. You don’t want to wear anything too restrictive. Also, be mindful of the weather so you don’t get too warm or too cold.
  • Face Coverings — In the past, face coverings were frowned upon, but that has obviously changed. The general rule is that you still don’t want to wear face coverings unless there’s a health reason. These days, masks are generally allowed for anyone who’s still fearful of the pandemic or has other health concerns.
  • Family-Friendly — Universal Studios is a family-friendly theme park, and that’s exactly what your clothing should always be. You don’t want your clothing to expose too much skin. This is always left to the discretion of Universal Studios, which we’ll get into more detail below.

What You Can’t Wear at Universal Studios

Even though Universal Studios isn’t strict, they definitely have a dress code. Here are some types of clothing that you absolutely can’t wear to the park:

  • Emergency Personnel — No one is permitted to wear any type of clothing that’s indicative of emergency personnel. This includes clothing that may make people think that you’re a police officer, firefighter, or paramedic.
  • Universal Employee — Believe it or not, guests have tried to impersonate Universal Studios employees as a prank or for nefarious reasons. This is absolutely against the rules and will get you banned from the park, so please don’t attempt it, even as a joke.
  • Offensive Language — It should be obvious that wearing any clothing with offensive language will not be tolerated. This includes foul language, obscene gestures, nudity, etc.
  • Incites Violence — It should also be obvious that any clothing that incites violence will also not be allowed. Universal Studios has a zero-tolerance policy, so we implore you not to test what they deem to be incitement.
  • Revealing Clothing — What may be seen as revealing clothing can differ from person to person. Universal understands this, but it’s important to know that they have the final say. Simply try to remember that this is a family-friendly theme park, and you shouldn’t show too much skin. Even wearing a tank top might be too revealing.

What Happens If You Break Their Dress Code?

As you can see, it’s very easy to abide by their dress code, so you can always have a very fun time at the park. But if you make a mistake or decide to cause a problem, here’s what you may face:

  • Change or Leave — If you break the dress code, a Universal Studios employee is most likely going to ask you to either change your clothing or leave the park. This actually doesn’t happen too often, but it’s important that you be aware of the dress code because nobody wants to be asked to leave.
  • Purchase Clothing — If you haven’t brought along a change of clothes and don’t want to leave, which most people won’t, then you’ll usually be given the option of purchasing a piece of clothing from one of the gift shops. Luckily, there are several gift shops containing hundreds of different t-shirt designs of your favorite Universal characters. Pick your favorite and wear it around the park all day.
  • Banned from the Park — In extreme cases, not following the dress code can cause you to be banned from the park. The good news is that this is very rare and not likely to happen. Universal Studios doesn’t like banning people from the park, but you definitely don’t want to push them.

Feel Free to Bring Some Items in a Backpack

One very helpful clothing accessory that you can bring along is a backpack. Here are some items that we suggest carrying inside:

  • Extra Snacks — Many people are unaware that Universal Studios is perfectly okay with people bringing outside snacks into the park. This is a great way to save money throughout the day as you make your way from one exciting attraction to the next.
  • Sunscreen — Since you’ll be outside walking around for much of the day, you should absolutely bring along some sunscreen. If you forget to pack some, you can pick up a bottle at one of the various shops in the park.
  • Extra Clothes — It doesn’t hurt to pack some extra clothes, especially for the kids, in case of any spills or accidents. If you’re visiting in the winter, you might want to bring along a couple of long-sleeve shirts just in case it gets colder than expected.
