Will Disney World be crowded in January 2022?

The magic of New Year’s Eve is soon upon us. This festive time of year coincides with all of the magic-themed events Disney has planned for the upcoming new year! January is our favorite month to visit the parks because of its cooler temperatures. What’s not to love?

You guessed it. The answer is crowds…

Crowds can make a huge impact on how many things you can see and do in one day. If you’re spending most of your time in line, you’ll probably only be able to see 2/3 of the park.

Some champion the after-hours events versus the normal daytime visits to the parks just for this reason. In after-hours events, lines are only a 5 minute wait on average. Some rides even allow you to just walk right on!

However, if you have little ones, they may not be able to handle the late hours very well. Nobody likes to spend their vacation trying to keep overtired kids happy.

Here at World Class VIP, we have a solution to this problem. We can help you plan your vacation around Disney’s busiest times so that you can enjoy Walt Disney World in January to its fullest!

Times when the park will be MORE crowded

According to Disney’s crowd calendar, the busiest times of the month will be New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Disney’s Marathon Weekend, Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, and MLK Day itself. As long as you avoid the parks during those peak times, you should be able to see the vast majority of the park in one day – without the overtired kids. However, if you happen to be a fan of New Year’s parties or marathons, we’re going to go over the events just for you.

New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day

On New Years, the excitement in the air is palpable as everybody prepares to ring in the new year Disney-Style. There are refreshments and special fireworks shows just to celebrate this occasion. So, if you love the excitement and sparkle of New Year’s events, this time is for you.

Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend

Disney has many annual passholders and local ticket holders who are native Floridians. When we get off work for an extra day, you better believe that we make the most of it! Disney is crowded as it is on weekends, and the long weekend is sure to be a hit with the locals.

Marathon Weekend

The first weekend in January has been dubbed “Marathon Weekend”. Running from January 5th-9th, the event features several marathons taking place throughout the theme parks. Runners from all over the country come to Disney just for this event.

And of course, Disney doesn’t leave out the kids. Because kids don’t tend to have as much endurance as adults do, Disney has a few smaller races for children only. They can head on over the the ESPN sports complex to sign up.

Pasta In The Park Party: This is a buffet-style event with rare character appearances, and a fireworks show at the end of the night!

Kids’ Races: Age-appropriate tot trots to runs for anyone 12 months – 13 years

Disney Family Fun Run 5k: A family fun event that runs through Epcot!

Half Marathon: An abridged version of a full marathon for those looking for a challenge.

Walt Disney World Marathon: The main event! The races will go through all four theme parks, with plenty of park characters to cheer you on as you embark on a 26-mile magical journey!

Finally, at the close, there will be the Disney Spring Cooldown Party! Enjoy music and good food after a well-accomplished run!

Least-Crowded Times To Visit Walt Disney World in January 2022

So, what do our VIP tour guides have planned for those wanting to avoid crowds? Let’s find out!

Epcot International Festival of the Arts

First off, it’s definitely worth it to check out the Epcot International Festival! It is Epcot’s newest festival and features three artistic categories: visual artwork, international cuisine, and the performing arts.

Visual Artwork:

Anybody love selfies? Here’s your chance at some photogenic backgrounds worth aiming your camera at! Here there are life-sized recreations of some of history’s most famous artwork, such as the Mona Lisa and the Scream. Another medium that will be on display is chalk art, featuring both 2d and 3d art!

International Cuisine:

For the foodies or those just looking for a midday snack, check out 1 of 15 food booths! Including two brand-new ones named Deco Delights and The Craftman’s Courtyard. At these “Studios”, food isn’t just made; it’s crafted. Simply put, presentation is everything and the chefs really deliver!

For example, one of the desserts is a cookie served with “paint” frosting on a dough palette! Not only will the paint look good, but it’s sure to compliment your palette nicely as well! For those looking for a full meal and not just a snack, Disney aims to please from Mexican fare at El Artista Hambriento, to Japanese at Goshiki.

Performing Arts:

Here, it’s all about Disney On Broadway, where you can listen and watch your favorite Disney songs come alive with hits from Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, Mary Poppins and more!
