Coronavirus safety at Disney World.

Disney has always shown great care and concern regarding the safety and health of their guests. When the coronavirus pandemic hit, they decided not to take any chances and voluntarily closed their doors sooner than most others.

Since then, they’ve been working on a strategy that would allow them to reopen their parks while doing everything they could to prevent the virus from spreading among the normal Disney crowd of workers and guests. Let’s go over some of the coronavirus safety strategies you can expect when visiting Disney World.

Advanced Reservations Required

Although online ticket orders and other types of advance reservations have become the norm for millions of Disney World visitors in recent years, lines for tickets at the gate are typically quite long. This gathering of guests is eliminated completely by requiring all reservations be made prior to arriving at the park. Therefore, make sure you already have your tickets purchased, so as to avoid any potential delays.

Social Distancing Throughout the Park

It’s been shown that social distancing is the most effective way to prevent the coronavirus from infecting others. The big concern with a Disney crowd is that people will be gathered closely together, which increases the likelihood of the virus spreading from one person to another. Social distancing will be enforced at attractions, restaurants, and other locations. There will also be Cast Members to gently remind guests to keep their distance.

Temperature Checks Before Entry

One of the most common signs of the coronavirus is a rise in body temperature. Before you’re allowed entry into the park, you must have your temperature taken using a no-touch device. If you’re above 100.7 degrees, you won’t be allowed in for that day, so you definitely want to check each person in your group before you arrive. Daily checks are also done with workers, who will be sent home if their temperature is above the limit.

Enhanced Cleaning Procedures

Disney World has always maintained extremely clean facilities but have doubled (and in some cases tripled) their efforts to achieve coronavirus safety. In addition to routine standard cleanings of bathrooms and deep cleanings of specific areas of the park, surfaces that get a high amount of contact are wiped down following each use.

FastPass+ Temporarily Halted

The FastPass+ program is, quite frankly, one of the best decisions that Disney World has made in recent years. This allows guests to skip the line in a limited number of attractions. Due to lower crowds and the need for social distancing, this program has been temporarily halted so that the areas where the lines form can be used for everyone and simplify social distancing. Once the pandemic has passed, the FastPass+ program will return.

Reduced Contact for Park Services

It isn’t exactly clear how easily the coronavirus can live on surfaces, because there simply hasn’t been enough time to study it yet. Disney has decided to err on the side of caution by reducing the amount of contact that patrons will have for certain park services. Whenever possible, payments and other such things will be done using a hands-free method.

Hand Sanitizer Stations Available

Washing your hands will help curtail the spread of the virus, but it isn’t very convenient for guests to constantly visit the bathroom. Hand sanitizer has been identified as an easy way to kill the virus. This is why Disney has added hand sanitizer stations throughout the park. Each station is routinely refilled, but if you notice one that’s run out or is running low, a Cast Member will refill it.

Mask-Free Relaxation Zones

Face masks are among the best tools that we have to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Disney understands, however, that wearing one can get a bit uncomfortable after a while in Florida’s warm climate. To prevent people from being tempted to take them off throughout the park, you’ll find mask-free relaxation zones that allow you to take a break from them.

Cancelling of Certain Events

Even though everyone has been tested for a higher temperature and are wearing masks, Disney isn’t going to take any chances by holding large events such as parades or fireworks shows. Large events that always draw huge crowds will either be severely reduced in size or cancelled altogether. Once the pandemic is over and life returns to normal, the full events will return as well.
