What is being updated at Epcot in 2022?

If you’re planning to visit Disney World this year — and you absolutely should, because it’s awesome! — then you may start wondering what changes you might see and experience. The entire park will see multiple additions throughout the year, but some of the biggest changes are focused on Epcot. Let’s take a look at some of the 2022 Epcot updates that you can expect to find the next time you visit.

Future World Rebranded into Epcot

The set of Epcot updates that we’ll be focusing on involves the fact that what used to be known as Future World has mostly been rebranded into Epcot. Disney announced this huge change a while back, which will include the integration of these three neighborhoods:

World Discovery — This neighborhood focuses on science, technology, and intergalactic adventures that are brought to life for visitors to enjoy.

World Celebration — The intent of this neighborhood is to provide experiences that will show how a single person connects to every other person.

World Nature — There’s a lot of beauty and awe found in the natural world, and this neighborhood focuses on understanding and preserving it.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind

For most visitors, the most exciting of all the Epcot updates is the new Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind attraction. This roller coaster includes swiveling seats, a reverse launch, and all of your favorite GotG characters. Whether you’re a Marvel fan, space fanatic, or simply love roller coasters, this is one ride that you won’t want to miss.

Play! Pavilion

If you’ve been a bit confused about the Play Pavilion that has even appeared on pamphlets for Epcot, you’re not alone. This interactive area has been discussed for two years and was originally slated to open for the 50th anniversary, but was delayed due to the closures during the pandemic.

We may see it in late 2022, but it could be delayed until next year. When it finally debuts, you can expect an interactive city that gives you hands-on experiences with a variety of Disney characters.

Space 220

Although some of the youngsters reading this might someday be able to dine in space, the closest most of us will ever come is something like Space 220 at Disney World. This amazing culinary experience actually opened up in September of last year, but it’s certain to be new to most of this year’s visitors. While you eat, you get to enjoy a daytime and nighttime celestial panorama of a space station from 220 miles above Earth.

Mickey & Friends

This replacement for the former Character Spot is currently under construction, but there’s been no announced date for its completion yet. In fact, Disney hasn’t released much information about it at all, but we can assume that in addition to Mickey, we’ll get favorite characters such as Minnie, Goofy, and more. With a little luck, we might see this revamped meet and greet area by the end of the year.

Connections Cafe & Eatery

Located next to the Creations Shop, the Connections Cafe & Eatery opened up in April of this year and is already a popular hotspot. Notable to some because it’s the new permanent location for Starbucks, this cafe is a fast-casual restaurant featuring pizza, burgers, salads, shakes, beer, cocktails, and more. Whether you’re looking for a full meal or simply want to grab a tasty cup of coffee, this is the place.

Journey of Water

The Journey of Water attraction has been anticipated ever since its announcement and there’s a good chance that we’ll be seeing it before the end of the year. This is the first Disney World experience based on the beloved Moana movie and will allow guests to interact with living water in a gorgeous setting. You’ll truly feel as if you’re in the middle of the movie thanks to the amazing Disney Imagineers.

Club Cool

Epcot has been making a lot of changes in recent years in an attempt to truly transform the entire space. Club Cool has been a part of that plan for quite a while and just opened last year after being shut down, which means that 2022 will be its first full year of operation. This is an awesome gift shop that replaces Mouse Gear, but its most notable feature is that you can taste Coke products from around the world.
