Everything You Need to Know About Moana’s Journey of Water

Released in 2016, Moana told the story of a Polynesian teenager as she set forth across the ocean to save her people. Along the way, she meets the demigod Maui, who guides her into becoming a master sailor and wayfinder.

Moana’s Journey of Water is inspired by Moana, in particular the way that the ocean’s water responds to her and assists her throughout her journey. Here’s everything you need to know about Disney World’s newest attraction:

Walk-Thru Experience

Moana’s Journey of Water is a unique attraction because it’s a walk-through experience based around Polynesian culture and the Disney movie. Throughout the walk, you’ll discover interactive water elements, rock sculptures, and lush greenery. The Moana movie score, which is very calming and relaxing, will play everywhere you go!

Official Opening Date

Epcot has been planning a lot of big changes in recent years, and it’s not done yet. One is Moana’s Journey of Water, which is set to open on October 16th. It’s located in the World Nature neighborhood of Epcot, and the excitement for it couldn’t be bigger! We expect that attendance will be very high on day one, just like other new Disney attractions.

Moana Meet-and-Greet

Having characters available for kids and adults to meet has been a Disney World tradition since the park first opened. Just outside the entrance of Moana’s Journey of Water will be none other than the wayfinder herself. Feel free to say hello and get pictures taken with this beloved character. She isn’t there all day long, but a private tour guide will help you show up at the right time.

Attraction Preview

If you can’t wait until the official opening date, you have the option of attending an attraction preview. These previews are open to Disney Vacation Club members and Annual Passholders. The attraction will be open during these previews from September 24th through the 29th and from October 1st through the 4th. Not only is this a great opportunity for guests, but it also helps train Disney Cast Members on the new attraction before it’s open to everyone.

Wet or Dry – Your Choice!

There seem to be two kinds of people who visit water-based attractions at Disney World: those who want to get absolutely drenched and those who want to stay bone dry. Moana’s Journey of Water gives you the choice. You can have either a wet or dry experience. But don’t worry—the dry path is just as whimsical, magical, and beautiful.

Captures the Water

One of the goals of Moana’s Journey of Water was to truly capture the movement of water. As you move through the attraction, you go from one water cycle to the next: Rain, Stream, Wetland, Spring, Land, Lake, River, Ocean, and Sky. Although we haven’t been able to experience the attraction yet (at least by the date of this writing), we have no doubt that the Walt Disney Imagineers have done a stupendous job.

Playing with the Water

The coolest part of Moana’s Journey of Water is how much you’re able to interact with water as you walk through the attraction. In one area, a curtain of water will open up as you slowly approach. In another way, you can jump on a pad and make water shoot up into the air. There’s even the opportunity to wave at the water and watch it wave back at you.

How World Class VIP Will Help You Enjoy Moana’s Journey of Water

Moana’s Journey of Water is no doubt one of the most unique attractions in all of Disney World. The Disney VIP tour guides at World Class VIP have been waiting months for this ride to open, and we couldn’t be more excited! If you join us on the adventure, you’ll be able to reap these benefits:

Skip the Attraction’s Line

Standing in line for attractions is never fun. When you sign up with World Class VIP, your private tour will help you get in line fast to avoid long wait times. This means you’ll be able to skip over the long line at Moana’s Journey of Water.

Character Meet-and-Greets

Your private tour guide will make sure that you’re able to see Moana for a meet-and-greet. But that’s just the beginning. There are many characters throughout Disney World that offer meet-and-greets and photo opportunities. Your guide will go over which characters are available during which parts of the day and then take you to the ones you’re interested in.

Find Moana Memorabilia

Disney World has a ton of Moana memorabilia that you can take home with you. Whether it’s a gift shop near Moana’s Journey of Water attraction or all the way on the opposite side of the park, your guide can help you find what you need. This includes anything from t-shirts and coloring books to figurines and jewelry.

Book a Moana-Themed Room

A couple of years ago, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort was upgraded to include newly Moana-themed rooms. Even if you don’t stay in one of these rooms, the resort itself will make you feel as if you’re inside the movie or whisked away to a far-off village. If you’re interested in this resort hotel or any other, World Class VIP can assist you with booking a room before you arrive.

Get to the Attraction Quickly

With the size of Disney World, getting around the park can be a little tricky at times. Even when you can see Moana’s Journey of Water on the map, it could take you some time to find your way. Our private tour guides know the park very well, so they’ll be able to get you to the Moana attraction and anywhere else in the shortest amount of time possible.

Discover Festive Treats

There are quite a few festive treats available throughout Disney World, some of which are relatively close to Moana’s Journey of Water. The pineapple Dole whip has been a favorite for many years, but we also suggest the Kakamora Dole Whip waffle bowl. Your guide will be able to help you locate these and other festive foods and beverages during your visit.

Learn Facts About the Park

Our Disney VIP tour guides all love Disney World and everything it has to offer. They love to learn as many facts about the park as possible. Whether it’s Moana’s Journey of Water or any other attraction, they’ll give you all the details. Our guides will also clue you in on some of the secrets that you can find throughout the park that will make your visit that much more spectacular.
