Get ready for Avatar: The Way of Water by Visiting Pandora Today!

As the highest-grossing movie of all time, Avatar has undoubtedly captured the hearts of many people with its 3D visuals and compelling story. Given its massive success, it is no surprise that fans have been clamoring for the movie sequel for a while now. Unfortunately, everything has been tentative—up until now. However, after years of waiting, you can now rest easy knowing that Avatar 2 will be released on December 16, 2022. So, before the long-awaited movie comes to the big screen, why not take a trip down memory lane by visiting Pandora at Disney World?

Pandora: The World of Avatar is a famous landmark in Animal Kingdom, featuring multiple rides and attractions featuring the fictional world of the Na’vi. If you have yet to visit it, now is the perfect time to do so as you anticipate the release of Avatar 2. Get to know more about the immersive Pandora land below.

Best Things to Do in Pandora at Disney World

If you are not too familiar with Pandora at Disney World, here are some of the best things to do during your trip. You can add these to your itinerary to make the most out of your experience.

Tour the Valley of Mo’ara

The moment you enter Pandora, you go through a winding path to reach the Valley of Mo’ara, which features the iconic floating mountains in the box office film. Here, you will find pathways, bridges, cascading waterfalls, a native drum circle, and exotic plants—most notably the huge Flaska Reclinata.

The Valley of Mo’ara offers an immersive sensory experience. While exploring the valley, you can hear animals moving around and take in the combination of real and engineered plants growing on the land. Aside from touring around, you can also try doing the following things:

  • Head over to the Na-vi built drum circle to try the playable instruments
  • Collect the Wilderness Explorer badges
  • Touch the Flaska Reclinata to see it “pollinating” and releasing spores

Ride the Avatar Flight of Passage

Another must-try in Pandora is the Avatar Flight of Passage ride. Without a doubt, no trip to Pandora at Disney World is complete without trying out this fun and exciting ride. It is one of the most tried rides at Animal Kingdom, so you are sure to enjoy it even if you are not too familiar with the 2009 James Cameron film.

The Flight of Passage ride is a 3D flying simulated ride that takes you through some of Pandora’s best sights while riding atop a winged banshee. Like the movie, you get to link with an Avatar for the ride. It also recreates the feeling of flying on the back of a banshee with taller ride vehicles, allowing you to feel the banshees’ diaphragm moving while they breathe.

Given how popular this ride is, you can expect long wait times of at least two hours. In fact, long lines are such a norm that guests often get a FastPass+ to ensure they can try out the ride. Unfortunately, using a FastPass+ means missing out on the interactive queue elements like the cave and ACE research lab with an Avatar inside a tank. So, if you want to get the full experience, you can either stay in the queue or get a Disney VIP tour.

Ride the Na’vi River Journey

The Na’vi River Journey is the other main ride in Pandora at Disney World. Where Avatar Flight of Passage happens in the air, the Na’vi River Journey occurs on the water. You get to hop aboard a reed boat for this dark ride and travel through bioluminescent caves and rainforests with many exotic plants that glow in the dark.

The highlight of this ride is the part where you meet the Na’vi Shaman of Songs, and the Disney soundtrack “Way Tiretua” plays in the background. While this ride may not be as intense as the Flight of Passage, it has one of the most impressive technologies you will find in an attraction. It uses video screens and projections to make the surroundings look bigger and has advanced animatronics to create life-like details.

Dine at Satu’li Canteen

You can head over to the Satu’li Canteen for lunch or dinner, which looks like a Quonset hut and has nature-friendly elements to stay within the theme. This restaurant is unique since you can create your bowl with your choice of protein, base, and sauce. So, whether you eat meat or are vegan or vegetarian, you can find something that fits your dietary needs.

Get Refreshments at Pongu Pongu

If you ever get tired midway through your Pandora trek, you can take a break and grab some refreshments at Pongu Pongu. This quick-service beverage stand has fun snacks and drinks to energize you while walking around the theme park. Should you get the chance, try out their signature drink called Night Blossom, a non-alcoholic limeade, apple, and pear drink topped with popping boba.

Go Shopping at Windtraders

For major fans of the original Avatar movie, you can seal your visit by shopping at the Windtraders gift shop. It contains several Pandora merchandises you can bring home as souvenirs, such as T-shirts and clothes, glow-in-the-dark items, hats, plushies, necklaces, and others.

Stay for the Night

While this may sound unusual, Pandora has a completely different vibe and atmosphere at night. If you have the chance, make sure you stay or return to The World of Avatar after the sun sets. During this time, the exotic plants are illuminated with bioluminescent light. The waterfalls also cascade with colors, making for beautiful photos in the evening.
