Your guide to the upcoming Epic Universe at Universal Studios
Universal Studios upgrades on an almost yearly basis. We’ve seen many incredible rides and attractions come and go over the years, and there are many exciting adventures to be explored in the future.
In just the next three years, visitors will enjoy a plethora of new rides and attractions. We don’t know all of the details yet, but we’re going to share what we’ve been made aware of so far. Let’s take a look at what you can look forward to at Universal Studios in the next few years:
Halloween Horror Nights
Halloween Horror Nights have become a yearly tradition for millions of locals and tourists. This year, this event will feature eight frighteningly haunted houses and the Terror Tram. To give you a sneak peek at what you can expect, three of the haunted houses are based on The Evil Dead, Stranger Things, and The Exorcist. The event will change over the next few years, with new fears and frights.
Villain-Con Minion Blast
Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast just opened in the summer of 2023, so many people reading this haven’t been able to experience it yet. Over the next few years, we expect this to be a very popular attraction. During the ride, you’ll move through various movie-like scenes and use an interactive blaster to shoot the bad guys.
You can also check out the newly opened Minion Café, which features pulled pork grilled cheese, chicken bacon ranch mac and cheese, Nutella banana pudding, and more.
DreamWorks Land
For fans of DreamWorks animation, 2024 is going to be a great time to visit Hollywood Studios in Orlando. That’s because the former KidZone is being transformed into DreamWorks Land and will utilize favorite characters from movies and TV such as Shrek, Trolls, and Kung Fu Panda. So far, that’s all DreamWorks has confirmed.
But some rumors include an area based around Shrek’s swamp, a Trollercoaster, a troll sing-along, and interactive features. Universal Studios is being secretive, but we should know more soon enough.
Epic Universe
In the next few years—2025, to be exact—Universal Studios will introduce a huge new area of the park called Epic Universe. There’s absolutely no hyperbole involved when we say that this area will completely transform the park.
Although most of the information that we have about this new area, which we’ll go into detail about below, is based on rumors. But regardless of which rumors are true, it’s clearly the most ambitious project that Universal Studios has done since it was first opened.
How the Epic Universe Will Revolutionize the Park
Epic Universe is a huge undertaking that will double the size of Universal Studios. It will feature four different lands. Super Nintendo World and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will fill two of the areas, with How to Train Your Dragon and Universal Monsters making up the last two. At least, that’s what’s been figured out by internet sleuths who have studied the area through satellite images and public schematics.
Central Hub
The central hub of the Epic Universe is rumored to be a dueling roller coaster themed towards space travel. How this will work, apparently, is that there will be two roller coasters that run side by side for the majority of the ride but will go in opposite directions as they briefly invert. There may also be two additional coasters and possibly a spinner ride or carousel.
Super Nintendo World
It should come as no surprise that Super Nintendo World will be a part of the Epic Universe. As one of the most anticipated additions to the Universal Studios family, Super Nintendo World will feature exciting rides and interactive games with Mario, Donkey Kong, and all of your favorite characters. When it opens, there will be a Mario Kart ride, a Yoshi ride, a Donkey Kong roller coaster, and more.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter continues to be upgraded and advanced as the years tick by. Once again, this area is going to be expanded. This will most likely be the final addition to the Harry Potter area, and it may prove to be one of the best upgrades the park has ever done.
Once Epic Universe is complete, a new ride called Battle of the Ministry of Magic will send visitors on an adventure where Death Eaters and an escaped magical creature are nipping at your heels as you try to flee the building.
How to Train Your Dragon
Many fans have been hoping and dreaming for Universal Studios to finally build a How to Train Your Dragon ride, and now it appears that fans will get their wish and much more in the form of an entire area devoted to this delightful series of movies.
Rumor has it that one of the rides will give you control over how intense the experience is, allowing you to perform barrel rolls over and over again or have a calmer experience. There will also be an interactive boat ride and a landscape befitting of these modern classic films.
Universal Monsters
While kids are most likely looking forward to the Super Nintendo World area, many adults will most likely be excited for an area based around the Universal Monsters. This area will have a heavy focus on Frankenstein’s monster, Dracula, Wolfman, and several other famous Universal creatures.
The rumor is that there will be a spinning roller coaster based around the Wolfman and maybe even a Creature of the Black Lagoon ride. The entire setting of the area is supposedly going to be based around the idea that everyone in town needs to be ready for battle, with weapons like stakes and crossbows hanging on the walls both indoors and outdoors.
